Seaside Hotels in Yorkshire

hotels in YorkshireWhile British seaside towns were popular during the middle of the twentieth century, they developed something of a reputation for cheapness and tackiness towards the end of the century and were for a time the domain of pensioners’ tour buses only. As we enter the twenty-first century, however, British seaside towns are once again regaining their popularity as somewhat poignant remnants of a previous age. Once again, young British people think it’s ‘cool’ to go to the seaside, and this resurgence in popularity has meant many old seaside towns have begun to thrive once again.

In Yorkshire, the towns of Bridlington and Scarborough are benefiting from this change in attitudes, and becoming popular with tourists once again. There are now quite a few luxury hotels to be found in the area as a marker of prosperity, but there is still plenty of reasonable accommodation in the area for families, couples and anyone seeking a retreat from the pace of an urban lifestyle.

Many four star seaside hotels in Yorkshire charge less than £40 per night, which is a remarkable level of quality to receive at such a price (bearing in mind that most five star hotels charge over £100 per night). One of the best examples is the four star Marina Hotel in Bridlington. Not only does the Marina charge less than £30 per night, but you also receive three nights for the price of two, as well as a further free night if you are a repeat customer. This hotel is situated far away from Bridlington’s pubs and nightclubs, which means street noise is kept to an absolute minimum and an atmosphere of peaceful tranquillity reigns. The hotel includes a cosy bar where guests tend to socialise with each other, and serves some delicious and hearty local cuisine.

In the same town, the four star rated Mont Millais guest house has received the prestigious Silver Award and hard-to-come-by Breakfast Award from Visit Britain. Mont Millais is only minutes away from Bridlington’s pubs, clubs and entertainment venues, so this guest house is probably more suited to those looking for a lively holiday. Like the Marina Hotel, Mont Millais is one one of the best value hotels in Yorkshire, giving four star rated quality at the very reasonable rate of under £35.

In nearby Scarborough, you’ll find the four star Princess Court Guest House, which again charges under £35 per night. This is a family run hotel with a really friendly feel, which provides six beautifully decorated and meticulously maintained en-suite rooms, and serves home-cooked meals to all its guests. The hotel is so cosy, in fact, that you feel as though you have been welcomed into a family home.

The Raincliffe Hotel in Scarborough has also received the Silver Award from Visit Britain, and is again family run. It is situated just ten minutes away from Scarborough’s main tourist attractions, clubs, pubs and restaurants. Again, this makes it perfect for those looking for a hotel in Yorkshire suitable a lively break, but at the same time the distance between the hotel and the centre of town is just enough to allow for some tranquillity.
