How to find a wedding venue hotel in Yorkshire

hotel YorkshireIt’s not surprising that so many people want to get married in the beautiful northern English county of Yorkshire. With dramatic scenery and even more dramatic weather, Yorkshire is a county with personality by the bucket load and the sort of rich cultural heritage that lends itself well to romance. Precisely because of its popularity as a wedding venue, there are now so many wedding venues in the area that it can be difficult to choose just one. To give you a little inspiration, I picked three of what I think are the best wedding venues Yorkshire has to offer.

Harewood House is one of the most impressive venues in the county. An 18th century mansion house that was originally commissioned by Edwin Lascelles with money that was made by his father in the West Indian sugar trade, today Harewood House is not just a wedding venue but also a museum and exhibition centre. Only certain areas are available for rental as a wedding venue, the Pavilion, the Courtyard, the Victorian Terrace and the Grounds, but these are hugely expansive and easily provide space for several hundreds of guests. Harewood House doesn’t provide accommodation, but the surrounding area doesn’t lack in luxury accommodation options so that shouldn’t be an issue. The only problem with Harewood House is its popularity; you may have to book well in advance.

At £2000 a night, Carr Hall Castle certainly isn’t cheap in terms of accommodation, but you’d find it difficult to find a better hotel Yorkshire wide for a wedding party. For £2000 a night, you can rent the whole of the castle including five spacious double bedrooms, an indoor heated swimming pool, gym, steam room, hot tub, private woodlands and a lake with a romantic wooden wheel. During the day, the grounds of the castle could be the site for the wedding itself, while drinks could be held in the reception rooms later. Afterwards, the castle would function as a truly unique and unbeatably luxurious honeymoon venue. Of course, it could be used for the wedding night only (at such a price), with the lucky couple heading off elsewhere afterwards.

Carlton Towers is another mansion hotel available as a wedding venue in the Yorkshire region, this time with gothic styling. The hotel has sixteen uniquely designed bedroom suites which are perfect for wedding guests, and a majestic bridal suite with a grand four-poster bed and a beautiful free-standing copper bath. If you’re looking for a venue to truly impress your guests, there is no doubt that the Carlton Towers Hotel in Yorkshire will hit the mark.

However, there are also many charming alternative wedding venues on offer at many a hotel Yorkshire wide. The Hill Top Farm, for example, is perfectly kitted out for picturesque rustic weddings. It comes with farm animals including horses, ducklings and piglets, for something just a little extra special. Weddings here usually involve a marquee set up in one of the fields, with some wooden boards for some good old fashioned wedding dancing. The Hill Top Farm is not just a farm, of course; it also offers a luxury bridal suite designed in traditional rural style.

Wedding Venues in Yorkshire

wedding venues YorkshireThe northern county of Yorkshire has some of the most dramatically beautiful scenery in all of Britain. Its beauty, and the fact that it is also steeped in the troubled but romantic history of the Brontë sisters, makes it the perfect county to hold a wedding. Yorkshire has become such a popular wedding destination, in fact, that wedding venues Yorkshire wide have sprung up all over the district, each one more idyllic than the last.

One of the grandest venues in the area is Harewood House, a grand 18th century mansion commissioned by Edwin Lascelles and the family seat of the Earls of Harewood, one of whom fought at the Battle of Waterloo (and whose medal is on display in the house). Harewood House has not one but two different wedding venues, the Grade 1 listed Courtyard building, and the newly extended Pavilion. The wedding party can also make use of a 15th Century church on the grounds, and the beautiful romantic Victorian Terrace. Harewood House is fast becoming the most popular venue in all of Yorkshire, so bookings aren’t easy to come by! The only downside to this sumptuous venue is the fact that it doesn’t also include a bridal suite. However, there are plenty of luxurious five star hotels nearby so it doesn’t present too much of a problem.

Another great option is Simonstone Hall Country House Hotel which can boast one of the best locations of any hotel Yorkshire has to offer. Located at the foot of Stags Fell, Simonstone Hall has some absolutely fantastic views of the surrounding countryside (the foothills of the Pennines and Upper Wensleydale) which make it perfect for an outdoor summer wedding. Simonstone Hall has eighteen rooms available for the wedding party, all of which come with the finest of fittings including Egyptian cotton sheets, ranging in price from between £100 to £300 per night including breakfast.

For a distinctly gothic wedding venue, you may like to consider Carlton Towers, a privately owned Victorian gothic mansion. While still inhabited by Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard, three grand state rooms and a total of sixteen uniquely designed bedroom suites are available for hire. This includes a bridal suite with a magnificent four-poster bed and free-standing copper bath. The gardens can also be used for the wedding party, making Carlton Towers another one of the best wedding venues in Yorkshire.

However, for something a little out of the ordinary, Yorkshire’s Hill Top Farm can be hired out for weddings. This includes traditional stone barns, a corral, tractors and farm animals. Hill Top Farm offers some beautiful views of the surrounding area and offers a truly unique rustic wedding experience. Here, you can choose to have your wedding photographs taken on horseback, in front of the Western-style saloon, or on a rope swing! This could be combined with the best in local produce and some live musicians for a grand old-fashioned knees-up.

From luxury gothic mansions to charming rustic farms, Yorkshire has a fantastic array of wedding venues to suit every taste. Whether it’s tradition and indulgence you’re looking for, or something a little bit different, you’re sure to find great wedding venues in Yorkshire.
